A Conversation with BeFit4 CYCLING

Photography by Adam Middleton

With the BeFit4 CYCLING Launch Party only three days away, now's a great opportunity to tell you more about the revolutionary fitness programme aimed at cyclists and the people behind the brand. BeFit 4 have teamed up with Bicycle Basecamp and Foffa Bikes to create a fun and dynamic cycling-specific exercise class. Other than being supported by a collection of great brands BeFit4 CYCLING aims to improve cycling proficiency and enjoyment. BeFit4 CYCLING is a one-hour group class that aims to accommodate all levels of fitness. Participants will increase lower body and core strength, while improving cycling technique. In addition to keeping you fit the training will help prevent injury and increase road control and confidence. The class itself is non-cardiovascular combining Strength and Conditioning, Pilates, and Yoga movements.

This programme is made all the better by the cocktail of brands involved, so whats happens when you get a fitness brand, a bespoke bicycle manufacturer and an aspiring social cycling project (Bicycle Basecamp) all in one room with the mission to create a fitness programme for cyclists?

Custom Nike's

Adam Simpson, (Bicycle Basecamp)- Mat what motivated you to create BeFit4 cycling

Mat (BeFit4, founder)- Being a frequent cyclist myself, I realised that the vast majority of cyclists ignore stretching, core strength and basic cycling specific strength movements. By not including these exercises into their routines, bad habits are developed and at worse can cause injury. The team at BeFit4 created a cycling specific class that incorporated stretching, core strength and cycle specific strength movements that improves cycling strength, efficiency and recovery. Best of all the BeFit4 CYCLING class helps correct any muscular imbalances and bad habits that are developed during regular cycling.

Mat Watson, BeFit4 Founder

Adam Simpson- What makes BeFit4 Cycling unique in a market filled with a variety of fitness classes.

Mat Watson- BeFit4 CYCLING is the only non-cardiovascular program specific to cycling, that combines Strength and Conditioning, Pilates and Yoga into one dynamic class.

Tyson Sadlo, Foffa Bikes Co-founder and professional photographer

Adam Simpson- So Tyson how does a growing bicycle brand specialising in bespoke bicycles end up getting involved in a cycling specific fitness programme?

Tyson Sadlo (Co-founder, Foffa Bikes)- Foffa Bikes was approached originally by Bicycle Basecamp to get involved as we are a British Owned, global bike brand with a community focused attitude towards encouraging cycling for all types of riders. After meeting BeFit4 founder Mat I knew immediately this was something we wanted to get involved in. I realised that my fitness was not that great and thought that perhaps taking part in the BeFit4 CYCLING program would help. I do a lot of international travel and often do not get to use the gym due to my hectic lifestyle. The BeFit4 CYCLING program seemed to be offering a great solution to my needs and to my knowledge there is nothing like it out there already.

Adam Simpson- I understand you've personally been completing the BeFit4 CYCLING programme over the last 8 weeks, how has that been for you.

Tyson Sadlo- The program itself has been a huge success for me and lots of people have already commented how good I am looking. I have lost 20 Kilograms ( 3.15 Stones) in just 6 weeks and feeling much better for it. The team at Befit4 have really made the program easy and flexible. The BeFit4 team are great motivators and encourage you to succeed whilst making sure that your lifestyle is not hampered in any way. It's great to finally have a fitness program designed for me and around me and not intrusive to my current lifestyle.

Adam Simpson- Mat back to you, so what programmes does BeFit4 Cycling currently offer

Mat Watson- There are three types of programs available. There is the "Bespoke" one to one sessions that includes a Bio-mechanical Assessment with a Physiotherapist, a Nutritional consultation and follow up at the completion of the sessions and a choice of Personal Training, Yoga and Pilates depending on the individuals specific goals. This is brilliant for those that have a goal in mind or event to train for and need that one to one commitment. We can also provide small group training, that is focused on the groups individual needs. This offering is more cost effective, plus keeps the sessions fun as people can train with their friends. Then there is the BeFit4 classes which is a great way to get you stretching and preparing your body for day to day cycling or more advanced cycling training.

The great thing about the classes is that you get to exercise with some really lovely trainers and meet fellow cyclists at the same time. They will be as hard or as gentle as the class feels like doing on the day. Very personal even in a class environment. If people cannot make it to the classes in Old Street, our trainers can bring the BeFit4 CYCLING classes to people's work or a nearby park.

Adam Simpson- Last but by no means least how did Bicycle Basecamp get involved

Gerry Newton (Founder, Bicycle Basecamp)- Bicycle Basecamp is in essence a project fuelled by the cycling community. When Mat initially approached us his ethos and direction for BeFit4 Cycling was virtually identical to ours, having the believe everyone everywhere can benefit and enjoy cycling - BeFit4 Cycling aims to aid that lifestyle choice. Both Befit4 and Foffa Bikes believe share a true passion for cycling and for that reason I truly believe everyone involved will help make Befit4 Cycling a great addition to the cycling community.
